Shannon Riley currently serves on the Board of Assessment Appeals. She successfully filled the Democratic vacancy on the Board in January 2023 and completed the Board of Assessment Appeals Training Workshop earlier this year.
An educator for nearly 20 years, her background in public education and visual arts sets her apart from other candidates, as she understands the importance of being able to fully appreciate other’s perspectives and points of view prior to forming her own conclusions—a skill set that is essential to this role.
Her training as an educator has cultivated her ability to evaluate and assess many points of view. Her training has also provided ample opportunities to engage in data analysis and planning, along with the flexibility of mind to see how the data alone does not always tell the whole story—and that individual experience can often provide a more nuanced interpretation the entire picture. A patient and active listener, Shannon prides herself in being able to create and foster environments that are safe and equitable for everyone.
An active volunteer, Shannon cares deeply about our community and regularly gives her time to support the Brookfield Democrats and their efforts to continue to foster progress and improve the quality of life for all in Brookfield.
She holds an M.S. in Curriculum Development from Western Connecticut State University and a B.F.A. in Fine Arts from the College of New Rochelle.
Shannon and her family have made Brookfield their home since 2008.
